Sylvia’s Success Story: A Future Served with Dignity

One year ago, Sylvia was a determined 25-year-old student pursuing a certificate in Hotel and Institutional Catering at YMCA College of Business Studies. Surrounded by circumstances that could have easily defined her future, she chose instead to define it for herself.

Born into a family of six siblings—most already married—Sylvia envisioned a different path. After the passing of her father, her mother struggled under the heavy burden of poverty while also caring for her own blind mother. For four years, Sylvia lived with Beatrice Achieng Nas, founder of Pearl Community Empowerment Foundation, who became both mentor and pillar of support.

Through sponsorship from A More Balanced World, Sylvia was given the opportunity she so fiercely believed in—education.

Today, that opportunity has blossomed into triumph. Sylvia completed her classroom studies, fulfilled her internship, and proudly graduated on October 31, 2025. What once felt uncertain is now a reality: she is working, independent, and living a happy and dignified life. The young woman who once feared a future of hardship is now standing confidently on her own feet.
